Marshmallow Math and Jennifer's Birthday

We spent lots of time this week practicing for the play, finishing our Eric Carle unit and reading as many Eric Carle stories as possible! We also learned that sometimes at the end of the word there is an -ing added. My tots enjoyed finding -ing in books and applying it in their own reading.

Yesterday, we had some fun in math. We reviewed shapes and how many sides each shape has. We used marshmallows and toothpicks to make shapes. I'm not sure how the shapes looked by the time they got home, but here are some photos of my tots hard at work constructing their shapes.

Jennifer celebrated her  6th birthday yesterday with florescent cupcakes, juice boxes and goodie bags! Happy Birthday Jennifer!!

Looking ahead...

Next week's sight words: as, who
Phonics: review -ing and -ed ending

New unit of study: Non-fiction

                                                           Enjoy your weekend!!

My Tots are Authors and Illustrators!

We worked so hard on our very own stories using main characters, setting, problem, solution and repetitive language! Here are my tots with their books! I am so proud of them!!!

Field Trip and Kevin's Last Day

Our field trip to the Eric Carle play of The Little Cloud, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Mixed Up Chameleon was awesome! I was not allowed to take pictures during the show, but here are a few of the props they used!

On a bitter sweet note, our friend Kevin who joined us in December will now be attending Springdale. I know what you're thinking... we lost another student!! I am thinking the same thing; it is crazy! We will miss Kevin a bunch!!
Here are a few more from the bus and dismissal the day of the field trip!

Visitiors in Room 202!

Over the last couple of days we've had several visitors! Last week, one of my best friends who teaches 6th grade in Norwalk, was on vacation and wanted to visit kindergarten! Here she is reading an Eric Carle story to the class.
Yesterday, Dr. Bonasera saw us playing with our newest addition to the classroom, Lincoln Logs! He couldn't resist, and joined in on the building fun!
Lastly,  we had  a guest reader come today from, "Business to Books Readathon". My tots enjoyed three Eric Carle stories!

Check back tomorrow for pictures from our field trip to the SUNY Purchase College to see,          "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".

Remember a bagged lunch!! :)

Happy Friday!

Another week has come and gone quicker than expected! We have been busy rehearsing our lines, practicing getting on and off stage and making our characters for the play! In between our Eric Carle madness, we practiced the "magic" silent E, sounded out CVC words (such as cat, hat, hug) worked on subtraction skills and orally retold stories.

Over the past two weeks my tots have been struggling to talk nicely to each other. We took some time today to work cooperatively together without tattling, arguing, or being unkind. Here are some pictures of us at free choice game centers.

And lastly, our Celebrity...Isaac. Here he is with Snowy, his stuffed animal.

Looking ahead...

Eric Carle overload!!!

To say this week was busy is an understatement! We worked on all sorts of Eric Carle projects and stories. On Monday and Tuesday we began brainstorming ideas for our own version of an Eric Carle story. We chose characters, a setting, a problem and a solution. We will begin to write our repetitive language next week.
On Wednesday, we read, The Very Lonely Firefly. We used a beginning middle and end planning page to retell the story. We wrote sentences to go along with our pictures.

Being the good writers and illustrators that we are, we went back on Thursday to edit our work and add more colors to our pictures. On Friday, we decided to have some fun and make our vey own fireflies!
Did I mention on top of all of that, we are ALSO rehearsing for our play on April 28th?!

Amongst all of those activities, we still found time to practice sight words, have literacy and math centers and learn a new rule in reading. Ask your tot which letter is "magical" and makes the vowel say its name. :)

Celebrity of the Week: Lucianna with baby rattle snake.

REMINDERS:
Please send permission slips in ASAP for our field trip April 22nd to see, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Be sure to practice your child's line with them for the play. The letter went home yesterday.

Please  read the book-in-a-bag each night with your child, and ask questions about the story.

Wednesday, April 15th is an early release day.

Looking ahead...

Next week's sight words: dog, now

Monday we have music. Tuesday we have art. Wednesday we have gym. Thursday we have music. Friday we have art.

Welcome Back!

After 9 well deserved days off, we quietly and confidently came back to school and picked up where we left off! I think the most exciting news of the day was outside recess. We have been waiting for this day since January. While my tots had so much fun running around on the playground, I couldn't help buy day dream of this view from Florida last week...

Back to reality...here they are in action!! :)

Homework tonight: phonics page, math page and book-in-a-bag.
A letter went home today about our Eric Carle play! We are very excited about our performance and can't wait for you to see us in action. So please make sure to clear your calendar on Tuesday, April 28th at 10:00 a.m.

Friendly reminder: Character assembly tomorrow morning at 9:10 for students' receiving a charm and/or an academic award. (these letters went home before break.)

Have a wonderful night and enjoy this nice weather! XOXO
