Our Busy, Busy Week!!

This week felt like a whirlwind! Each day was filled with exciting events taking place at Roxbury. On Monday, we had an Autism assembly to learn more about what autism is and how we can be kind to our friends with autism.

On Tuesday, we had a guest reader come from United Way! Our guest reader read two Eric Carle books, The Tiny Seed and The Red Fox.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Ethan's birthday, had an early release day and participated in Career Day! Roxbury had volunteers from the community come and talk to us about what they do. Our favorite speaker was the police officer!

Here we are doing yoga with the yoga instructor.

On Thursday, we had Mrs. Purpero come and read to the class!
Reminder- if you would like to be a guest reader, please email me so we can arrange a time!

Here is the Celebrity of the Week, Zariah sharing what her snoopy stuffed animal that dances! She also told us she is 5 and when she is not at school, she likes to play with her brother.

In between all of these events, we found time to practice for our big show!!
The show is Tuesday, May 2nd at 10:00 a.m. A flyer will go home Monday as a reminder.
I hope to see you all there!

Also- If you have not RSVP'd for the Mother's Day Tea Party, please do so ASAP!

Happy Birthday!

Happiest of birthdays to Ethan this week who turned 6!

Spring Centers

Here's a look at my tots in action during our literacy block. It is so amazing for me to sit back and watch them work independently. I am SO proud of how far they've come and I love sharing their progress with you.
Here's a look at our centers.

Our new Donor's Choose centers arrived and we are loving all of the sight word and word work activities!!

We used spring mini erasers to build sight words.

We used word puzzles for ideas in our writing. A clipboard and work on writing on the rug is a crowd pleaser.

The writing center was also a choice!

As always, we found time to read to self!!

Keep up the great work Room 210!!!!

Recap of the Week!

As we approach the end of the school year it seems the weeks get busier and busier! We've been practicing SO hard for our May 2nd play. I hope everyone has marked their calendars and can make it to the big show! We are using Eric Carle stories to name characters, the setting, problem and solution.

In math, we learned how to add and subtract using a number line. Here is an example of  the number line we practiced on this week. Image result for number line 0-10

On Wednesday, 2nd grade put on a beautiful concert with Earth Day songs! Way to go 2nd grade!

Edgardo was the Celebrity of the week. He told us is 6 years old, he likes to eat pizza and when he is at home he likes to play police officer!

Since the first day of school, we've been working as a class to earn compliments throughout the school day. Some of the compliments are a quiet line in the hall, all friends on task, or we are sitting quietly on the rug. We earned a link for each compliment and the links created a chain. The chain finally touched the ground which meant we earned a reward as a class!
My tots voted for an ice cream party! We enjoyed vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream with sprinkles, hot fudge, whipped cream and cherries! Yummy!! We ate our ice cream while watching, Finding Dory

Looking Back on our Week!

In addition to our Eric Carle unit, Room 210 has been learning about Spring and weather! We read, It Looked like Spilt Milk. We learned about clouds and how sometimes they can look like other objects, but it's  really just a cloud!

We also did one of my favorite projects to go along with the story! I gave each student a piece of blue paper with dots of white paint. They folded the paper and moved the paint all around. When they opened the paper up, it was a really cool design!

We were so creative with what we saw, and some friends saw different objects in the same picture!!

Here's one that looked like a crown and a horseshoe.

In phonics, we've focused on the vowel A. For the past three weeks we've used stretchy the word snake to build words and sound them out.
Here he is!!

Our Celebrity of the Week was Olivia! She told the class she likes to eat pizza and when she's not at school she likes to play with her dog! She brought in her makeup kit to share with her friends.

Looking Ahead...

If you received an invitation to the Character Assembly it means your child is receiving an award. The Character Assembly begins at 1:30.

All About Eric Carle!

We are in the middle of our author study unit and kindergarten focuses on the well known author, Eric Carle.

Over the past few weeks we've read lots of Eric Carle stories paying close attention to his illustrations, repetitive language and fun animal characters.

We have also focused on characters, setting, problem and solutions in  his stories.

As a class, we began to write a class book in the same format as Eric Carle. We've worked really hard and finally finished on Friday. A copy will go home with your child this week!

Here are some pictures of my tots over the last few weeks working hard learning about Eric Carle!

Here are some of the girls writing about their favorite character!

Working on illustrations for our class book.

Painting using different textures and colors like Eric Carle.
Decorating the covers to our book!

Be on the look out in your child's folder for a save the date in regards to our upcoming Eric Carle play!!
