Room 202's Recap!
We have finished our money unit! We took time this week to focus on friendship, and the Earth. We read non-fiction stories and wrote about ways we were going to take care of the Earth. Here are some pics of us working on an Earth Day project.
On Friday, we took a nature walk outside and cleaned the Earth by picking up garbage we found around the school!
In math we practiced writing numbers 1-30. We worked on addition story problems, and reviewed coins and 3D shapes.
We are loving centers these days! Look at my almost first graders in some centers this week!
Building sight word puzzles
This is our writing center. We practiced spelling with puzzles, and used those words in sentences.
We even used clip boards- How exciting!
We love big books, and partner reading!
And one of our favorites- iPads! Head Sprout and RazKid to work on our comprehension and phonics skills.
Looking ahead…
Sight words: end, call
Letter Sounds: Long vowel and Silent E review
***Ask your child what makes the E so magical!*** :)
Early Release Day- Wednesday, April 27
Important date to mark off the calendar- Friday, May 6th! We are hosting our second annual Mother's Day Tea Party. More details to follow this week.

You've Got a Friend in Me!
Thank you to all of the parents who came out to see their little one perform. For those of you that could not make it, there is no need to worry! I am emailing out the video performance, since it will not upload to the blog. Here is us on stage getting ready, and some pics of us enjoying our cookies outside after a long day of performing!
All of my tots are working on being wonderful friends to all of their classmates. We've been reading friendship books and reviewing expected behaviors. Although some days we may forget, Room 202 loves one another!
Ms. Tenk's Tots Rock!
Look at all of these Rox Stars receiving awards for perfect attendance, Spring break reading and acts of kindness! Way to go kindergarten!
Keep up the good work!

A Look Back On Our Week!
We were well-rested and full of energy when we returned to school after our 9 days off! We picked up right where we left off before the break, and got right to it.
In Reader's & Writer's Workshop we continued our unit on money. We read books about earning, spending and saving money. We made a graph of what we would do with our own money.
Then,we used our graph as a writing prompt! Here is some of the "Rox" Star writing that was done!
Ashley would donate her money to kids who don't have any! :)
Rebecca would save her money for food, shelter and clothes!
Steffany would save her money to buy new Play-Doh!
We also cleaned out our book bins and made more room for Just Right Books! We found a cozy spot, and dove right in to our new selection of books.
In math we continued to work on coins and money. We also reviewed addition and subtraction, and started to learn about place value.
We were super busy getting ready for our performance on Wednesday, April 20th at 9:10, 10:15 and 11:40. You don't want to miss it!
Even with all of this fabulous learning and practice of our song, we made sure to enjoy the warm weather!
Looking ahead...
Letter Sounds: Vowel teams/ silent E
Sight words: stop, did
***I sent home an updated sight word assessment. Please review the words they missed. You may also get a jump start on the last 11 words from the kindergarten list.***
Lastly, a letter went home this week informing you that April is Autism Awareness Month. Our performance on Wednesday is all about friendship, and this ties in perfectly with Autism Awareness Month. In honor of this special month,We have asked that you send your child to school on Wednesday wearing either RED, BLUE or YELLOW.
Enjoy this gorgeous weather!

Character Assembly
MARK YOUR CALENDAR…
Kindergarten will be performing at the next Character Assembly on Wednesday, April 20th. They will perform the hit song from the Disney movie Toy Story, "You've Got a Friend in Me".
If you are home relaxing instead of traveling over this break, I welcome you to listen to and sing the song with your tot! I have put a link below with the lyrics as well.
More details to follow after break!
Happy Singing!
Eric Carle Show!
We boarded the bus and traveled to SUNY Purchase for the showing of three of Eric Carle's well known stories, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud and The Mixed-Up Chameleon. We were not allowed to take pictures of the show, but I was able to snap two photos of some of the characters during the question and answer segment.
We returned to Roxbury and had a picnic lunch!
We loved the show!
