Recap of the Week

Two early release days, a field trip, two birthday celebrations, report card assessments, a new student , and a goodbye to our friend Dante- we had a busy week!

We completed our Eric Carle Unit! We wrote about our favorite book, and why we liked that book so much. We used our writing checklist, and "Spaceman" to help improve our writing. Spaceman helps us separate our words, and our checklist helps us remember important details that go into our writing.

On Monday, we welcomed our new student from another Stamford school to our class! I will send home an updated class list/ email list. On Friday, we celebrated Dante's 6th birthday, and his last day at Roxbury.
We wish Dante the best of luck at his new school. We are going to miss him so much!

Sabrina was the Celebrity of the Week! She brought in her Minion toy to share with the class!

There has been an increase in toys coming to school, which causes for a distraction and/or argument of students not sharing. Please keep toys at home, unless it is your turn to share, thank you!

Looking ahead…

For students who are receiving a charm, the Character Assembly was rescheduled till Monday, February 29th.

Ferguson Library

On Monday morning we boarded the purple bus and headed for the Ferguson Library!

We took a tour of the library with Steve the librarian, and read some stories! My tots were so well behaved! Look at how nicely they are sitting, they look like first graders!!

Before we left, we sang some songs and did some movement with Steve!

We arrived back at Roxbury just in time to catch the African Drumming assembly in honor of Black History Month.

Retelling Hand

You may have noticed a hand in your child's book-in-a-bag bag last night! This hand is to help your child re-tell a story! We will be using it in the classroom as well so they should be familiar with the elements of the story.

Happy Reading!

Short and Sweet Week!

With only a 3 day week and many tots sick, we used this time to review and catch up! We learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We made George and Abe projects, and had the choice of which president we wanted to choose! Here is an example of what they looked like.

We continued with our Eric Carle unit. We read, The Lonely Firefly, and 10 Little Rubber Ducks. We used a graphic organizer, similar to their book-in-a-bag journal and wrote about the firefly. We also cleaned out our book bins and brought home lots of paper books to read to you!

In math, we received our new games from Donor's Choose and couldn't wait to try them out! One of the centers this week was an addition game using lady bugs as counters. My tots loved spinning the spinners and using the bugs to count!

Looking Ahead..

Valentine's Day

The anticipation of passing out valentines has been on my tots minds since the moment they heard it was February. Yesterday, it finally happened! Our day was filled with sweet stories like Who Wants a Hug? and silly stories like Crankenstein Valentine! In writing, we chose something we loved, drew a picture and wrote why we loved it so much.

In math, we used heart shaped fruit snacks to make addition problems.

First, we sorted the fruit snacks into two groups.

Next, we counted how many there were and wrote the correct number. Then, we added stickers to represent the number.
Finally, we got to eat the fruit snacks!

At the end of the day we enjoyed an assortment of fruit and yummy heart shaped cookies. We passed out valentines to our friends, and had some fun!

Happy Valentine's Day! Love, Room 202!

100th Day of School!!

It was a big celebration on Wednesday for the 100th day of school!! Throughout the day we did lots of fun, hands-on activities using the number 100. Our day began with a visit to the hall to view our 100th Day projects, and 100 acts of kindness wall.

Next, we had a rotation of 100 day centers. First center, was drawing something you wish you had 100 of, and something you do not want 100 of!
We wrote about if we had $100 dollars what we would buy.
For all of our handwork, we earned 100 dollars!

We worked together to complete a 100 piece puzzle, and counted 100 blocks and stacked them together!

In math, we counted by 10's to 100 and had to cut and glue the numbers in order!

We enjoyed 100 day stories such as Kindergarten Counts to 100 and Miss Bindergarten Celebrates 100th Day of Kindergarten. We had special 100 day snack made of pretzel sticks and marshmallows!

We ended our day making portraits of what we thought we would look like at the age of 100!

Heres to the next 80 days of school!

Review of the Week!

Groundhogs were the topic of the discussion in the beginning of the week. We made predictions whether "Phil" would see his shadow or not. half of our class said yes, half said no. We found out Tuesday morning, he saw no shadow and spring was on the way! However, we woke up to a snow storm Friday!

In writing we are working on our own version of the  The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and are listing things we do Monday-Friday. Each day we had one more item to the list. By Friday, we are writing about five things we do on Fridays. I am very proud of my tots hard work.

I also introduced a fun checklist to the class. The checklist is a friendly reminder for my tots to use finger spaces between words,  no uppercase letters in the middle of words, details in our picture and to sound out the word they are trying to write. They loved checking off each item as they did it!

In math, we spiced things up and used  heart erasers as counters to fill up our ten frames with teen numbers.

We also learned a new game called, Top-it. It is similar to the card game war, except there are only numbers 1-20.

Keeping with the Valentine theme, we read the story, The Day it Rained Hearts. To strengthen our fine motor skills, we used different colored tissue papers to make it rain hearts in Room 202!

On Wednesday, we met with our third grade reading buddies! We loved finding a comfy spot and listening to the "big kids" read to us. When they finished reading to us, we got to read to them!

Looking Ahead…
