Busy Day Before Vacation

We had a jam packed Friday before our week off! It began with our celebrity, Matthew sharing his Avenger action figures with the class.
Followed by a festive treat, compliments of Mrs. Purpero!
Next, we had our Pre- K and 3rd grade buddies visit for a spring craft!

After lunch, I explained to my tots about our Australian pen pals we will be communicating with via skype and pictures! We have hooked up with a school in Australia to become our pen pals! Our Australian friends sent us pictures of themselves and their classroom, so we did the same! (if you notice extra children in this picture we only got 1 new student, the rest are our pre-k friends!)

We finished off the busy day with a birthday celebration for Charlie! He will be 6 over April break. Happy  Early Birthday Charlie!

And if all of that information isn't enough for you...
Please SAVE THE DATE, April 28th for our first Roxbury Kindergarten Eric Carle Show! Details to follow after break.

If you are not traveling this week, I encourage the use of RazKids and Dreambox at home!

I hope everyone has a wonderful vacation where there is no more white stuff falling from the sky! I will be boarding a plane to Florida in the morning! :) XOXOXO

Donor's Choose Update

My latest Donor's Choose project has been funded and delivered! Below you will find a photo of our new reading nook in the back of our room! The book shelf on the right is the furniture that was funded. Thank you for your generous donations!

Before we had our reading nook set up, we took our latest books that we wrote and found a partner to read with around the room. We are so proud of our writing!

Although we love to read, I think science has taken over! After attempting to sink wood using paper clips and rubber bands, we changed the shape of wood by sanding it. Here are some pictures of my tots hard at work sanding their bass wood…

Homework tonight was only phonics, no math page!
Scholastic book orders due by Friday!

Disco Brain

I apologize if the song, "Disco Brain" is being sung by your child this evening (it has been stuck in my head all day!) We took a brain break this morning and did a little  disco dance before we finished our days of the week book we've been working so hard on!

We are hoping to get outside for recess by the end of the week. That is, if the weather allows Spring to arrive!

We have lost the usage of ipads for a bit due to the grades 3-5 test practice. I encourage you to use Dreambox and RazKids at home!
Here are some of the boys at their math centers today!

Homework tonight looks a little different. I went over it with the class, but if there are questions, feel free to email me! :)

Spring Days are Snowy Days...

This must be some kind of joke that on the first day of Spring it is snowing! We read a story about seasons and made rainbows in hopes that we would see the beautiful colors of the rainbow blossoming outside soon!

Charlie was our celebrity this week. He brought in a laser pen today and the kids were so excited! Most of them spent their recess time chasing a red dot around the room.
Justin was our celebrity two weeks ago and was sick, so he shared this week as well. Here is a picture of him with his power rangers.

Due to the weather 6 of my conferences were cancelled today. I have sent notes home or emails to try and reschedule. Please let me know what works best for you next week.

Looking ahead...

Next week's sight words: look, have
We have been working on vowels and vowel teams. This has been coming up in many of the books my tots have been reading. We will continue to review this next week.

As of Monday the number of students in our class will change yet again!  We are welcoming a new student named Briyan!

Monday is a purple day (gym). Tuesday is a red day (music). Wednesday is an orange day (art). Thursday is a yellow day (gym). Friday is a green day (music).

Enjoy your weekend and stay warm!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today was filled with lots of excitement. While the kids were at lunch, a LEPRECHAUN came into our class room and wrecked the place!!

He was gone by the time we returned, but left this note...
We looked all over for his shoe! We even visited Mrs. Svec's room to see if it was there!
Little did we know, he hid a fake shoe at the green table!
(all of  this chaos was going on and Mia couldn't help but clean!)

After we settled down, we made a graph using Lucky Charm cereal.

We finished our day with a green shamrock cookie, compliments of Mrs.D and a St. Patty's story! We wrote about people that meant more to my tots than gold!

If you haven't already, be prepared to hear lots of stories about that sneaky leprechaun!

Reminder: tomorrow is an early release day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My Little Picassos

Our latest Eric Carle story is, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Below are pictures of my tots painting their "part" of our giant caterpillars body! We watched a video on Eric Carle and the techniques he uses to make his illustrations. Then we tried it out for ourselves!

We had some friends out on Friday, once the caterpillar is complete, I will post a picture!

Our celebrity of the week was one of the sick friends on Friday, so he shared today.
Jordan brought in a Nano Lego set. The kids loved it!

Homework tonight: phonics page, math page and book-in-a-bag

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day...feel free to wear green!

Friendly Reminder: Conferences are Wed-Fri. this week, therefore Wed. Thurs. and Fri. are early release days.

Have a great night!

Donor's Choose Part 2

I want to thank all of the parents who donated to our first Donor's Choose project. We received our Common Core math manipulatives already!
This box is full of 40 Different centers and manipulatives to go along with each center! We are very excited to start using them!

Many parents went to donate to this project, and it had been funded already! I was asked by several families what my next project will be so they could donate, and the link is below. I have provided a picture so you know what it is that I am asking to be funded.

If you donate by March 20th, use the promo code SPARK and they match the donation!

Conference slips went home inside of the report card envelopes today. Wednesday, March 18th, Thursday March 19th and Friday, March 20th are all EARLY RELEASE DAYS.

Monday is a red day (music). Tuesday is an orange day (art). Wednesday is a yellow day (gym). Thursday is a green day (music). Friday is a blue day (art).

Thank you for all that you do to support me and your child's education. Have a wonderful weekend!

Teamwork

Did I ever tell you one of my favorite things about my tots is when they work together and don't fight?! Over the last couple of days I've taken a step back and admired and observed the independence that they have developed since September.  I've especially enjoyed their ability to assist one another and work cooperatively without me intervening. Here are some photos of my tots in action.

                                                                Partner reading

The girls on Raz Kids...
Sight word bingo

These are from our science experiment today. We worked with a partner to try to get the wood samples to sink in the water.

My Little Scientists!

First I would like to thank Mrs. Combest for bringing me a delicious cake and cupcakes to help celebrate my birthday!

Yesterday we were little scientist and observed what happens when five different types of wood gets wet. The kids loved this experiment because it was hands-on and had water!

Please remember to send conference forms back to school. If I don't hear from you, I will choose a time and date. :)

No book-in-a-bag tonight, we ran out of time! phonics page and math page.
